MacBook Pro with M6 goes on sale in India: what it means for older MacBook Pro value
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 is on sale in India from Rs 2,39,900. Here is what changed and what it means for older MacBook Pro owners.
Apple's 14-inch MacBook Pro with the new M6 chip went on sale in India on 6 November. It starts at a much higher price than the M5 model from last year. If you own an older MacBook Pro, or want to buy one used, this launch matters.
What Apple launched and what it costs in India: Pre-orders opened on 28 October, and sales started on 6 November. The base model has 16GB of memory and 1TB of storage. It costs Rs 2,39,900. The 24GB model costs Rs 2,63,900, and the 32GB model costs Rs 2,87,900. Students and teachers can buy it from Rs 2,27,900. A nano-texture screen adds Rs 18,000. More storage costs extra. Moving to 2TB adds Rs 60,000, and 4TB adds Rs 1,80,000. So the total cost rises fast if you need more space.
What is new in the M6 model: The M6 chip has a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU. The screen is a 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1600 nits of peak brightness. Apple claims up to 24 hours of battery life. The laptop also gets Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. It comes in Space Black and Silver. The ports are the same kind as before. There are Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, an SD card slot, a headphone jack and MagSafe charging. The M6 chip is only in the 14-inch size. The 16-inch MacBook Pro still uses the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
A big jump from last year's starting price: The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 launched in India in October 2025. Its base model, with 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage, cost Rs 1,69,900. The M6 base model now has 1TB of storage, but it starts Rs 70,000 higher. That is a lot more money for many buyers. So more people may look at older models instead.
What this means for older MacBook Pro owners and buyers: When a new model costs much more, demand for the last few models often stays strong. An M5 or older MacBook Pro still handles work, study and editing well for most people. If you own one and want the M6, check what yours is worth first. Good battery health, a clean body and the original charger all help it sell. Keep the bill and box if you have them. If you are buying used, check the battery cycle count, the screen and the keyboard. Make sure the seller has signed out of their Apple account and turned off Find My. Sellers should also plan ahead. Many people sell their old laptop around the time a new one arrives, so more used models may be listed in the coming weeks.
