PS5 no signal or no picture on the TV: HDMI checks before you pay for a port repair
A PS5 that turns on but shows 'No signal' on the TV is often a cable, input or video setting problem rather than a broken HDMI port. Work through these checks from PlayStation's own support pages before you book a repair.
First look at the PS5 light: solid white means the console is on, so the problem is the picture link. Check the TV input, reseat or swap the HDMI cable, try another TV port and remove any soundbar or receiver in between. If there is still nothing, start the PS5 in Safe Mode and use Change Video Output to lower the resolution or change the HDCP mode.
1. Read the PS5 power light: Solid white means the console is on and running, so focus on the cable and TV. If the light stays blue, blinks blue or blinks white, PlayStation says the console has frozen. In that case unplug it, wait 3 minutes, plug it back in and turn it on again.
2. Check the TV is on the right input: Use the TV remote's Input or Source button and pick the exact HDMI number the PS5 is plugged into. Many TVs have three or four HDMI ports, and a quick power cut or a family member watching a set-top box can change the selected input.
3. Reseat the HDMI cable at both ends: Pull the cable out of the PS5 and the TV, then push each end firmly back in until it sits fully. Look for a cable that is bent sharply behind the TV or pulled tight. Do not force the plug in at an angle.
4. Swap the cable and the TV port: Try a different HDMI cable and a different HDMI port on the TV. PlayStation recommends the HDMI cable that came in the box, as it supports the console's high-end features. If you buy a new one for 4K 120 Hz, look for an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable.
5. Connect straight to the TV: If the PS5 goes through a soundbar, home theatre system or game capture device, take it out of the chain for now. Plug the PS5 directly into the TV. If the picture comes back, the device in between was causing the problem.
6. Power cycle the PS5 and the TV: Switch off both the PS5 and the TV completely and pull both power plugs from the wall. PlayStation suggests waiting 20 minutes before plugging them back in and turning them on. This clears a confused handshake between the two.
7. Start the PS5 in Safe Mode: Hold the power button for about three seconds to turn the PS5 off. Then press and hold it again and let go after the second beep, about seven seconds after the first. Connect the controller with the USB cable and press the PS button.
8. Use Change Video Output in Safe Mode: Choose Change Video Output. PlayStation says this lets you change the resolution or the HDCP mode, which can help with blank screens. Try a lower resolution first. If you still get nothing, go back and change the HDCP mode, then restart the PS5.
9. Fine-tune video settings once the picture is back: Go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output. Set Resolution to Automatic, and if 4K 120 Hz gave you a blank screen, try turning off 120 Hz Output or setting Video Transfer Rate to -1 or -2. Also update your TV's software from its own menu.
