Dust builds up fast in Indian homes and makes a PS5 run hot and loud. Sony's own manual tells you how to clean it, including taking off the covers to vacuum underneath.
Switch the PS5 off, unplug it and let it cool. Wipe the outside with a soft dry cloth, then use a handheld vacuum on the vents. Remove the side covers and vacuum the dust trapped underneath, then clip the covers back on properly. Never use alcohol, thinners or sprays on the console.
1. Power down and unplug: Shut the PS5 down completely and pull the power cable from the back. Give it a few minutes to cool, especially after a long session.
2. Wipe the outside: Use a soft, dry cloth on the shell. Sony says not to use alcohol, paint thinner, benzene, insecticide sprays or chemically treated wipes, as they can damage the finish.
3. Vacuum the vents: Run a handheld or low-power vacuum along the vents at the front and back to lift loose dust. Keep it gentle and do not push anything into the openings.
4. Take off the covers: Lay the PS5 on the soft cloth and remove the white side covers the way Sony shows for your model. The method differs between the original, Slim and Pro versions, so follow Sony's cover guide for yours.
5. Vacuum under the covers: With the covers off, vacuum the dust that has collected underneath, including the small dust holes Sony built in for this. Do not unscrew anything or open the inner casing.
6. Clean ports with a dry cloth: If the HDMI, USB or power sockets look dusty, wipe around them with a dry cloth. Dirty contacts may not connect properly.
7. Refit the covers firmly: Clip the covers back until they sit flush on every side. Sony warns that loose covers can make the console overheat.
8. Give it breathing room: Place the PS5 at least 10 cm from the wall, not on a rug or carpet, and not inside a closed cabinet. Good airflow keeps the fan quieter in the summer.
